Last night I was watching the event at Apple iPhone 3.0 Conference on March 17 at Cupertino, California, U.S.. It lasted for roughly 1 and 1/2 hours. The event was awesome. iPhone 3.0 OS was a really 'finally' a great jump from the previous 2.0 OS.
I doubt that everyone would be saying this word 'finally' a couple of times in this event. Yes and finally the iPhone OS 3.0 beta release includes an updated Software Development Kit (SDK) with over 1,000 new Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) including In-App Purchases; Peer-to-Peer connections; an app interface for accessories; access to the iPod® music library; a new Maps API and Push Notifications. Apple also announced over 100 new features that will be available to iPhone and iPod touch users this summer including cut, copy and paste; MMS; landscape view for Mail, Text and Notes; stereo Bluetooth; syncing Notes to the Mac® and PC; shake to shuffle; parental controls for TV shows, movies and apps from the App Store; and automatic login at Wi-Fi hot spots. The iPhone OS 3.0 beta release will also include a new Voice Memo app and expanded search capability for all key iPhone apps, as well as Spotlight™ search across the iPhone or iPod touch.
It has already allowed companies to develop their 3.0 apps before the OS comes out. I have saw some of their apps from Meebo, Electronic Arts, Oracle, LifeScan, ESPN, Ngmoco, Smule. I had seen the Sims 3 on iPhone. It's great, but I think wouldn't be long term. Since I think it will hook up processes. However out of all the apps shown, perhaps I would get the musical game, Leaf Trombone from Smule. Dr. Ge Wang, I would say he is one smart and creative guy. Right now I have not seen any handheld games that actually allows you to blow into the microphone and play your musical instruments on iPhone. You better keep this app as a free one, I am sure I will be the one who will support with your game. You made me went to search on your curriculum vitae. Your PhD on Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) isn't going any waste. Thumbs up!
Another key feature that I like is the Cut, Copy, Paste. Apple fully utilised the accelerometer into this feature. Snap screen for a single word, pinch the screen to copy between chunks of words and paste them with just a click. Now accelerometer comes in, when you need to undo the changes just shake the iPhone. I bet no devices have this function yet. Nice geeky moves.
Merci tout le monde...
